DJ MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

Adam has been working with Katherine and Eric for several months hosting discussions and sharing with them important background information that all Tango DJ's need to know in order to have more awareness of what they are doing while DJing.

This week they will be collaborating, DJing together, and using Tango Cafe as a platform to help continue their learning experience.
We need more DJ's in the community!

FROM ADAM -
"When I started DJing, I had no guidance really. I knew what music I liked, and I knew what was played at the local milongas in NYC.

I knew that you played the same years, singers, etc.. but I really had no clue. I just did what I heard the other DJ’s doing.

I went out dancing every night and soaked in as much as I could.
I don’t even remember hearing the term, ‘The Big Four,’ until maybe 5 years into my DJing.

It wasn’t until around 2008/09 when I was in Buenos Aires and Horacio Godoy invited Ciko and I over to his house and gave us an impromptu musicality / DJ class that we started learning a lot more about the nuances of what a Tango DJ does as well as what a DJ needs to know.

We learned about the relationships between the musicians within the orchestras, who played with who, why D’Arienzo was so influential in shaping the future of tango after 1935, and how so many other orchestras came into existence and got recorded.

We also learned why some recordings sound better than others, how to use the EQ to assist in making the music sound better and much more over the years.

All of this set us out on a journey to continue learning as much as possible about the music, the history, and the different ways we can share this music with everyone.

This information took us years to acquire but now we can share it and help form new DJ's faster.

There is so much more that helps one become a good DJ. Most of it just happens in the process of DJing. So, it’s important to open those opportunities up to new DJ’s when we can."
